Good to know
Group size
We limit our group size on our longer tours to around six motorcycles, or no more than 10 riders and pillion passengers in total. Smaller group sizes allow us to visit small villages while having the least impact on the local culture, and give you a more intimate experience. However, we can take much larger groups, if requested, as we are able to supply a mechanic and support vehicle if needed.
In our experience, the ideal group size is between four to six motorbikes. More people means more fun but too big a group means less information the guide can provide as he needs to take care of your safety. Larger groups tend to create more delays, and it becomes more difficult for the guide to keep the group up-to-date on the highlights of the tour and road conditions. If you would like to ride in a larger group, it may be better to split the group into two or more smaller groups during the day, with a guide for each group.
We require at least two people to make a booking. If you are on your own, you can still make a booking and we can find other riders to join your tour.

Rider age
The average age of our riders is between 30 and 45 years old, but no one is too young or old for adventure. We have taken pillion passengers as young as four and our oldest rider was 72.

What to bring?
For all of our overnight tours, we supply every bike with a pair of saddlebags that are large enough to carry everything you need for several days. You can also strap a small backpack to the rear rack of the bike if needed. You can leave your luggage with your hotel or at our office in Hoi An, and if you are transferring to Hue or another destination, we can arrange for your luggage to be forwarded there.
Here is our suggested packing list for overnight motorbike touring:
- Clothing: gloves, sturdy boots, T-shirts, socks & underwear, long-sleeved shirts, extra jeans, a light jacket, sunglasses
- Personal items: basic toiletries, emergency cash, sunscreen
- Miscellaneous: a small towel, a bath towel, trash bags, camera and chargers

How we ride
We keep our groups small to ensure the safety of our riders. The traffic in Vietnam is probably unlike anything you have experienced anywhere else in the world, and in the countryside you can expect to see crops drying on the road, sleeping dogs, herds of cows and water buffaloes, bicycles and motorbikes. Road surfaces can also change very quickly.
However, riding in Vietnam can be amazing experience if you follow a few simple rules. Drive slowly and leave plenty of room between you and the other riders in the group. Expect the unexpected — Vietnamese drivers do not give way or yield at intersections and truck drivers act as if they’re the only ones on the road. Your guide will give you tips on safe riding throughout your tour.
Obviously, the more experience you have on a motorcycle before your tour will make your ride safer. However, if you have no motorcycling experience, you can still enjoy the adventure as a pillion passenger with one of our trusted local riders.
Riding experience is necessary. For non-riders, one person may travel as a pillion passenger with our licensed drivers. Pairs or couples can also double up on one bike.
